Year 7 Summer School 2021

From the Monday 16th – Friday 20th August 2021, we had a fabulous week holding our first ever Summer School for some of our new Year 7 students who joined us this September!

Students took part in a wide range of enjoyable activities across the week which inspired and enthused their love for learning and adventure ready for their secondary school journey. Highlights included: team building challenges; sessions focused on business enterprise; drama and geography lessons; and breakout room games, all underpinned by the Maths and English faculties.  We also read a short story by Sita Brahmachri called 'When Secrets Set sail' as a group across the summer school week, which we believe encouraged a lifelong love of reading.

The RGTS Summer School was a brilliant opportunity for our new Year 7 students to meet some of our fantastic staff and jump into secondary school life. They were able to get to know the building, meet some of our staff and have a taste of what to expect before they joined us in September 2021. All of our students enjoyed their snacks and the free school lunch provided by Olive Catering.

On the penultimate day of our Summer School students were presented with certificates and awards for all their hard work and for demonstrating our core values across the week.

Parents and carers have commented that their child’s mental health and wellbeing was well supported throughout the proceed and students reported that they felt less nervous and more relaxed and excited to start secondary school with us.

We would like to thank all our staff who have made this week so enjoyable and beneficial, the students for their positive engagement and the parents and carers for signing their child up and enabling them to attend.

We look forward to hosting our RGTS Summer School again next year in preparation for our new Year 7s joining us in September 2022 and hope that this will becoming a longstanding tradition within our Year 6 transition programme at the Royal Greenwich Trust School.
