Ready to join RGTS Sixth Form?

Studying Engineering at our Sixth Form enables students to explore the world of Engineering and the many different sectors within it.

Engineering has an integral part to play in all aspects of the modern world. BTEC engineering allows students to study multiple Engineering sectors providing a base for further education once the course is complete.

The Engineering course we deliver is a two year course, which upon completion is the equivalent of three A-Levels. This course consists of seven mandatory units and eight specifically chosen units to provide the broadest range of Engineering sectors possible to students.

Course Outline

The course consists of three exam units - Units 1, 3, and 6 - which are examined at different stages across the two years. These units assess key aspects of the
Curriculum, such as Engineering Principles, Product Design, and Microcontroller Systems.

The course then consists of twelve internal units, which are assessed through internal assignments.

These assignments are focused on specific skills and knowledge, allowing the student to demonstrate a detailed understanding.

Studying an Engineering BTEC can lead on to programmes such as:

  • Aerospace or Automotive engineering
  • Bioengineering Communications/telecoms/network engineering
  • Manufacturing engineering
  • Marine technology/naval architecture/ship science
  • Computer systems engineering
